Cookbook Spreads
From a selective list of recipes taken from Hello Fresh, I was to design two cookbook layouts that followed the same theme, but had their own flare. To accompany this, is an online version of one recipe. The design must contain all copy provided; recipe titles, servings, ingredients, folios (page numbers), captions, footers, pantry staples sidebar, and a burst/ violator with supplementary information highlighting one of the recipe’s ingredients.

Rationale
I selected three adjectives to guide my visual direction: colorful pop, modern minimalist, and fresh. This theme allowed me to pair a clean black-and-white aesthetic with intentional pops of color, creating balance while showcasing the vibrancy of the food in a non-traditional way. Rather than listing ingredients in a standard text format, I incorporated a photo for each ingredient. This approach supports visual learners, adds clarity, and still honors the long-standing convention of ingredient lists. I chose circular frames to represent the ingredients because their shape naturally creates harmony and cohesion across the layout. Each photo was selected based on how well it complemented the main image of the completed dish, ensuring that the final recipe photo also served as the color palette for the entire composition.
To structure the layout, I divided each page into four columns and kept all non-photographic elements within the margins to maintain order, consistency, and visual comfort. I chose a bold decorative typeface for the title and carried it into the subheadings to establish hierarchy and draw attention to the title, which I placed in a non-traditional position. Its rotated placement introduces movement and a dynamic flow from the title to the ingredients. While both pages share consistent visual elements, I shifted the layout between them to create a sense of continuity without duplication. This variation adds contrast and reinforces the overall concept: that color, clarity, and modern design can work together in multiple expressive and compelling ways.
