where everyone deserves flowers

Call it a passion or obsession, but I’ve always found flowers fascinating; I love the way they can communicate something without saying anything at all, which is ironically the same ideology as good design.

While I’m well versed in the the significance of flowers in Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome as religious offerings and symbols, I’ve recently become fascinated by their significance during the Victorian Era. Flowers became a language to express emotion, as it was something not outwardly communicated. Now known as floriagraphy, it’s the art and practice of using flowers to communicate messages, feelings, and ideas without speaking.

There’s a reason we associate roses with love and sunflowers with good news. Flowers have carried meaning for centuries, and that language still influences the way we share them today. As meanings evolve, flowers have become woven into some of life’s most significant moments: acknowledgement, admiration, celebration, sympathy, and remembrance. They can mark a milestone, offer comfort in grief, or simply remind someone that they’re appreciated.

I think that’s what fascinates me the most: flowers can say so much without saying anything at all.

I always thought it was silly when people say there’s no point in buying flowers if they’re just going to die, because morbidly, so are we. Yet, we choose to take chances on people, celebrate milestones, and create memories all the time. The fact that something is temporary doesn’t make it meaningless.

There’s something so special about seeing someone’s face light up when they receive flowers. Even in a difficult moment, they provide a moment of happiness. So maybe this is the moment where I say, buy the flowers. Make someones day, celebrate them- even in the smallest moments. Don’t wait until it’s too late to pass along the simple joy of giving something beautiful. Everyone deserves the beauty of flowers.

As I’ve grown to appreciate flowers, I’ve also learned to love their growth through the seasons, and the idea that growth rarely happens alone. Flowers need the right environment to flourish, and I believe people and ideas do too. I grew because people believed in me, supported me, challenged me, and created alongside me, and now I want to offer that same support for my clients. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s what in full flower means: a state of blooming or flourishing. Everyone deserves to be celebrated. To have the opportunity to grow. And the chance to flourish.
